Foundation Faces

Clint Mabie

Name: Clint Mabie
Title: President and CEO
Organization: The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona

Vital Stats:
48; born in Evanston, IL. Married to Debi with three children; Chess (14), Clark (8) and Martha (6)

First or Most Interesting Job:
My most interesting job was during the summer between my junior and senior year in high school where my father had one demand - that I sell something. I chose to sell Fuller Brushes door-to-door. My manager, Wally Osharzcak, showed up the first day with white patent leather shoes and a bow tie. I learned a lot from Wally, including how to read a customer and most importantly, close a deal, although the process to get there meant many a closed door and mad dashes running away from dogs.

Hobbies/Favorite Pastime:
I played basketball and ran until my knees said "no". I love to play golf with my friends and spend time with my family.

Your Path to Philanthropy:
My parents were very involved in the nonprofit community since I was very young. I got to see the character of those that gave back vs. those that did not, and the decision was easy.

I started a nonprofit as the Director of Development of the Golden Apple Foundation, where I learned how to build a development operation and manage events. I then established the Center for Teaching and Learning with my friend Ron Perlman which taught teachers how to incorporate technology into the classroom. To know about education however, you have to teach and therefore I went to school and became a high school teacher in inner city Chicago where I taught world geography, history and consumer-economics. Upon learning that we were going to have a second child, I moved to The Chicago Community Trust where I was for seven years.

Favorite Quote or Motto:
The way to get things done is not to mind who gets the credit.

More than Funding
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona helps connect individuals with the causes they are passionate about and supports their efforts to make a positive impact in their community. CFSA serves as a vital link between philanthropy and our community’s needs by using its wealth of knowledge of local nonprofits and by leveraging relationships to create powerful solutions for Tucson and neighboring communities.

Our work touches every aspect of daily life including education, health care, human services, personal development, community enhancement, the arts, and the environment. Since 1981 hundreds of individuals, families, businesses and nonprofits have established charitable funds at CFSA, creating a family of nearly 500 funds that combined have granted more than $100 million to the local community.
