Grantmakers In Aging (GIA) Affinity Group

Across the United States, a major demographic shift is transforming every aspect of community life. Personally and professionally, every grantmaker is likely to feel its effects. Since 1970 the number of people over 65 has increased by 80 percent. In Arizona approximately 1.5 million baby boomers are nearing retirement age and nearly 1 million Arizonans are already 65+. While many more seniors are managing to live healthy, active lives, evidence indicates that that aging still brings real challenges and high costs.

Grantmakers can play a significant role in connecting the generations and in helping our communities capitalize on the opportunities and challenges of an older society.

AGF, in January 2011, with financial support from Grantmakers in Aging and four AGF members, launched at two-year EngAGEment project. The goal is to provide funders with timely information and resources relating to the issues of older adults and ultimately to build partnerships with nonprofits and government agencies that serve older adults , in order to maximize the collective positive impact of their efforts.

Special thanks to our AGF EngAGEment Supporters who provided $30,000 in matching funds for this two-year project.
