October 2007 Program

Nonprofit Consolidation
AGF, the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona collaborated to bring David LaPiana, a national expert on nonprofit strategic restructuring, to Phoenix and Tucson in Obtober 2007.  David conducted a workshop for nonprofits on the morning of October 25th and a session for funders on that same afternoon.  He then traveled to Tucson to speak with nonprofits and funders the following day.

Both nonprofits and funders gathered for a luncheon panel presentation on October 25th that featured David LaPiana as well as two local nonprofit executives with extensive experience with strategic restructuring: Bryan Howard of Planned Parenthood Arizona and Fred Chaffee of Arizona Children's Association.  The program began by asking participants at their tables to discuss key questions relating to nonprofit collaboration/consolidation: 1) Are there too many nonprofits? 2) How can funders support or inhibit collaboration?  3) If your organization is seriously considering collaboration, what concerns do you have? Participants were then asked to report out the results of their discussions. Finally, the panel members provided their own insights on the benefits and challenges of strategic restructuring.

Below is a link to the luncheon video, which begins with reports from the small groups followed by presentations by the panel members. Please contact Erin with any questions you have about this event.
