January 24 Affordable Housing – Arizona Community Foundation Initiative (co-sponsored by Valley Contributers Network)
February 28 Lessons Learned from Grantmaking Failures – An informal discussion among AGF members about your thoughts and feelings regarding grantmaking “failures”, what barriers tend to discourage the sharing of mistakes with colleagues and nonprofits, and the lessons you’ve learned from those grants that didn’t go as planned. March 27 Essential Skills for Grantmakers – Join the Council of Southwest Foundations and Arizona Grantmakers Forum, along with grantmakers from across the Southwest, to participate in this workshop designed for those new to the field of philanthropy or anyone wanting a refresher on the basics of grantmaking. There are three different sessions presented: Navigating Legal and Ethical Issues, Managing the Personal and Professional Challenges of Grantmaking (Lunch Session), and Making Sound Funding Recommendations. April 24 Sustainability in Arizona – Nancy Welch, Assistant Director of the Morrison Institute, will present the results of the Morrison Institute's report on sustainability, and discuss philanthropy's role in creating a sustainable future. Click Here to RSVP.
May 15 Marc Freedman: Aging in America – Marc Freedman of Civic Ventures will highlight examples of the remarkable contributions of engaged older adults, both in Arizona and nationally. He’ll also share research results suggesting the significant impact that millions of older Americans will have in areas like education, health care, nonprofits and government. Considered a passionate and engaging speaker, Marc will inspire you to explore how your organization can best utilize this emerging source of human capital. This program is open to AGF Members and Nonprofits.
June 26 Impact of Recession on the Nonprofit Sector - Speakers from our community will discuss the real and anticipated effects of the recent downturn in the economy on nonprofits, specifically social and human service organizations. More information coming soon.
July 24 Annual Flagstaff Program! The subject of this program To Be Announced shortly.
September 17 New 990 Tax Forms - Red flags to look for when reviewing nonprofit financials.
October 23 Maximizing the Social Return on your Grantmaking Assets - This Program will explore alternative investment strategies like PRI’s, Mission Related Investments, voting proxies, etc.
November 20 Governance/Administrative Best Practices - The focus of this program will be on addressing the range of policies and procedures that all nonprofits should have in place to ensure nonprofits pursue the highest standards for accountability and transparency. Open to nonprofits.
December 11 Annual Meeting - Joel Orosz will speak on the Challenges of Philanthropic Leadership.
